Sleepy Head

Grady is growing like a weed. He turned two in December and is becoming a little boy right before our eyes. Here are a few stories about his bizarre sleeping habits. A few months ago we had an experience that started the evolution from baby crib to big boy bed. At approximately two am one evening we heard a sound, no cries followed so we rolled over until the sound of little feet were heard coming down the hall, I assumed it was Kalia out of bed, so I climbed out of bed with my eyes still tightly closed and as I took one then two steps I ran into Grady in our bedroom. My eyes opened and I asked myself, while still in my sleepy haze, how did he get out of his crib? He slept with us that night and the next night we reassembled his crib into a daybed configuration with safety rails. This was the beginning of the sleeping on the floor routine. Each night after we tucked Grady into bed Sean and I would go about our evening quiet routine and then it would start, (It may be helpful to note Grady sleeps in a make shift room with rice paper walls on two sides and no door in the door frame to his room) we would hear little feet in the dining room or under the dining table or behind the front room chair and there he was laying on the floor. We eventually realized he preferred the floor to his crib. And thus began the mattress on the floor situation. They definitely don't give good decorating ideas for a mattress on the floor scenario in the Pottery Barn Kids magazine.

Grady's 2nd birthday at the Farm

Grady turns two on Dec. 18, 2009 however, we held his party on Dec. 5th.
We celebrated Grady's 2nd birthday at the farm. The farm is an organic garden created by our friend Roby Snow. We love this place so much we invited all our friends over for some fishing and a BBQ. It was a beautiful day and we spent it together digging for worms, fishing, kayaking/canoeing, hiking, eating, running and sleeping.

Grady was a little feverish and felt like a nap so he slept through most of the party. His friends however had a great time. Six year old Vida asked if we had any games planned. Unfortunately, I did not have games planned, Grady usually likes to run in circles and throw rocks. So the kids got together and created their own games. Duck duck goose, tag, relay races, ring around the rosies, and then explore the flower gardens. We had to redirect after the last game the farm is Sean's work site after all.

The video is later that same day shot at the house in Koloa. Grady thinks bubbles are fantastic and with this little bubble container he can do it, in his words, "self self". Enjoy!

Halloween 2009

The Three Amigos

The idea for Halloween costumes came early this year. Grady and two friends Vivika and David who tend to be together more often than not decided to dress up as a group. Someone suggested the Three Amigos idea and a Spanish theme exploded. Thanks to Aunty Lina the costumes turned out great! After one craft night it was unanimously decided that Vicki would paint Grady's outfit. Ok, so actually I just pooped out. It took a few girls nights to get the details right, but the costumes really came together. I found a pink flamenco dress for Kalia and a thrift store ensemble for my self and Sean.

Halloween night was great, we had a small party at Annika's home and then we took to the streets for some trick o treating. We had a great holiday and are excited for next year! ( I now have a few costumistas in my corner to help with the details, thanks Lori and Vicki)

Bend, OR
